We aim to safely, securely and cost-effectively capture, transport and store 15 million tonnes of UK emissions per year by 2035, and we have initial storage capacity of over 400 million tonnes.

What is carbon capture and storage (CCS)?

CCS is a key part of achieving the UK’s commitment to net zero by 2050, ensuring energy security and a prosperous future. A tried and tested technology, it involves capturing CO₂ that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere and transporting it via a pipeline to a secure underground storage site deep beneath the seabed. With our Viking CCS project, we will play a significant part in enabling the UK to be a world-leader in this vital decarbonisation technology.
